AL CAPONE

America Latina Crime and Policy Network (AL CAPONE)

Crime and violence are perhaps the most important problems that Latin American and Caribbean countries and cities are facing today. Therefore, LACEA creates a new network geared toward these issues in order to promote research by offering academics a consistent meeting where they can discuss their work with their peers on these issues.

AL CAPONE  aims at bringing together efforts by Latin American and Caribbean economists from other parts of the world doing research on the determinants and consequences of crime and violence in Latin America and the Caribbean. The target is to give special emphasis to research on this topic that uses state-of-the-art techniques in order to advance the knowledge on the economics of crime in the region. Also, one of the key objectives of the network is to promote discussion and exchanges between policymakers and researchers, in an attempt to generate positive feedbacks between policy and new academic research. Finally, the network will help in the consolidation of data sources on crime and violence by promoting meetings between different crime observatories across the region. AL Capone Website

AL CAPONE Network heads are:  Daniel Mejía ( Universidad de los Andes) and  Joao M. De Mello ( PUC-Rio).
