Mauricio Cárdenas Santamaria
President 2008-2009

Mauricio Cárdenas is currently the Minister of Mines and Energy for Colombia. Prior to this appointment, Cárdenas was a senior fellow and director of the Latin America Initiative at Brookings. Until August 2008 he was Executive Director of Fedesarrollo, an independent policy-oriented research center in Bogotá, Colombia. He has published seven books and a large number of academic papers. Since 1992 he has taught in the Economics graduate program at Universidad de los Andes. In 2001 he was Visiting Scholar at Harvard University. In 1999, Cárdenas was selected as one the Leaders of the New Millennium by CNN/Time Magazine. Between 2001 and 2003 he was President of Titularizadora Colombiana, an IFC-sponsored initiative that developed Colombia’s secondary mortgage market. Prior to that, he was Minister of Transportation (1998-1999) and Director of National Planning (1999-2000). He also served as Minister of Economic Development in 1994 and as General Manager of the Empresa de Energía de Bogotá in 1993. Mr. Cardenas holds a Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

LACEA 2013

Call for Papers

The 2013 LACEA and LAMES meetings will take place in Mexico City, Mexico, from October 31 to November 2, 2013. The Meetings will be hosted by El Colegio de México. The Annual Meetings of these two academic associations will be run in parallel, under a single local organization. By registering for LACEA-LAMES 2013, participants will be welcome to attend to all sessions of both meetings.The deadline for submissions is June 14, 2013. 

 

 PEG meeting will take place in Bogotá, Colombia, on May 30th and 31st, and will be organized by Universidad de Los Andes and Fedesarrollo. For more information click here.
