Ricardo Hausmann
President 2010-2011

Ricardo Hausmann has been at Harvard since 2000, where he is the Professor of the Practice of Economic Development at the Kennedy School of Government and the Director of the Harvard-wide Center for International Development. Before arriving at Harvard, Ricardo was the first Chief Economist of the Inter-American Development Bank, where he created the Research Department (1994-2000) and promoted the Latin American Research Network. In 1992 and 1993 he served as Minister of Planning and member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Venezuela. Between 1985 and 1991 he was Professor of Economics at the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración where he founded the Center for Public Policy. In 1988-1990 he was a visiting fellow at Oxford University. In 1984-1985 he served as General Director for Short Term Planning in the Planning Ministry. In 1981-1983 he was Assistant Professor at the Central University of Venezuela. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University.
Ricardo Hausmann has always complemented his broad research questions with country-focused work and engagement with senior policymakers. Throughout the years he has worked on most countries in Latin America, as well as China, India, Kazakhstan, Morocco and South Africa. He was a founding member of LACEA and participated in its first board. He was also chairman of the 1994 Meeting of the Latin American Chapter of the Econometric Society and served as President of the Chapter in 1996.
