Fernando Álvarez has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota. Currently he is Professor of the Economics Department at The University of Chicago. He is also Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, Editor of the Journal of Political Economy, and Associate Editor of the Review of Economic Dynamics and the Quality Rated Journal of Macroeconomics. Before joining the Faculty of the Economics Department at Chicago, he was Assistant Professor of the Finance Department at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He has hold visiting positions at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Universidad de San Andrés and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. His publications include “Efficieny, Equilibrium and Asset Pricing with Risk of Default”, Econometrica (2000), “Money and Interest Rates with Endogenously Segmented Markets”, Journal of Political Economy (2001) and “The time Consistency of Monetary and Fiscal Policies”, Econometrica (2004).
