Call for Papers
Eighth UTDT Workshop in International Economics and Finance
Buenos Aires, Argentina, December 2-5,
2005
The VIII Workshop in International Economics and Finance organized
by the department of economics at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and
the research department of the Inter American Development Bank will
be held in Buenos Aires on December 2-5, 2005.
The workshop is a unique event that brings together top researchers
and policy makers from the North and the South to discuss recent
theoretical and empirical advances in international Economics and
Finance. The goal of these meetings is to gain a better
understanding of the macroeconomic problems faced by Latin American
countries and to encourage research on the subject. The program's
format will be similar to that of our past meetings. Three days will
be devoted to the discussion of recent papers in the field, and one
to a policy oriented conference open to the public. The theme of the
conference open to the public will be economic growth after deep
financial crises.
We welcome papers on international economics, macroeconomics and
finance that address issues of relevance for the economies of Latin
America. Some topics of special interest are:
- The real effects of financial
crises: recessions and recoveries
- Models of credit markets and
economic activity.
- Openness and growth.
- Sovereign debt and sovereign
debt restructuring: new problems, new theories and new empirical
evidence.
- Sudden stops in capital flows:
models and estimation
- Fiscal policy in Latin America:
theory and empirical regularities.
- Monetary policy in emerging
economies.
A program committee formed by
Guillermo Calvo, Fernando Alvarez, and Andrés Neumeyer will select
the papers to be presented in the brain storming sessions.
We will cover the travel expenses of all speakers and discussants.
However, we urge you to find other sources of funds, as we are
running this on a limited budget.
Please indicate your willingness to participate in the VIII Workshop
in International Economics and Finance at Universidad T. Di Tella by
sending an email to summer@utdt.edu
by October 17, 2005. Papers must be submitted by email in PDF format
to the same address. The program will be posted in the workshop's
web site,
http://www.utdt.edu/~summer, by November 4, 2005.
Please pass the news of this conference to other potentially
interested scholars. We are especially interested in reaching
advanced graduate
students and young assistant professors.
