 Arturo Galindo

Executive Committee Member 2006-2010

Arturo Galindo is the Colombian Government's advisor on coffee affairs. He is currently on leave from Universidad de los Andes where he is an Associate Professor of Economics. He holds a Ph.D. and an MA in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and a Bachelor and Masters in Economics from Universidad de los Andes. In 1993, he joined the Central Bank of Colombia, where he was awarded the Central Bank´s scholarship to pursue graduate studies abroad. After completing his Ph.D. in 1998 he returned to the Central Bank where he remained until 2000 when he joined the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank where he rose to the position of Senior Research Economist. In 2005 he returned to academia, joining the Department of Economics of Universidad de los Andes. Previously he had taught at Universidad de los Andes and Universidad del Rosario. He has been consultant to the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. Currently he is also the technical coordinator of a financial sector reform that the Ministry of Finance will be proposing to congress shortly. Galindo has published academic papers in areas including exchange rate behavior, exchange rate regimes, speculative attacks, and various banking topics. Recent papers have been on the role of creditor protections on financial activity, the role of balance sheet effects on employment, and of the impact of asset diversification on banking stability during the Argentine crisis
