Call for Papers
Sixth UTDT Workshop in International Economics and Finance
Buenos Aires,
Argentina, December 8-11, 2003
The VI Workshop in International Economics and Finance organized by
the department of economics at Universidad T. Di Tella and the
research department of the InterAmerican Development Bank will be
held in Buenos Aires on December 8-11, 2003.
The workshop is a unique event that brings together top researchers,
financiers and policy makers from the North and the South to discuss
recent theoretical and empirical advances in international Economics
and Finance. The goal of these meetings is to gain a better
understanding of the macroeconomic problems faced by Latin American
countries and to encourage research on the subject. The program's
format will be similar to that of our past meetings. Three days will
be devoted to the discussion of recent papers in the field, and one
to a policy oriented conference open to the public. The theme of the
conference open to the public will be openness and economic
development. Robert E. Lucas Jr.,
University of
Chicago
, will be the keynote speaker and will give a lecture on the gains
from international trade.
We welcome papers on international economics, macroeconomics and
finance that address issues of relevance for the economies of Latin
America. Some topics of special interest are:
|
- |
Openness and growth. |
|
- |
Sovereign debt and sovereign debt restructuring: new problems,
new theories and new empirical evidence. |
|
- |
Sudden stops in capital flows: models and estimation |
|
- |
Fiscal policy in Latin America: theory and empirical
regularities. |
|
- |
Increasing exchange rate flexibility in emerging economies: are
we better off without monetary rules? |
|
- |
Models of credit markets and economic activity. |
A program committee formed by
Guillermo Calvo, Enrique Mendoza, Andrés Neumeyer and Alejandro
Hernández will select the papers to be presented in the brain
storming sessions.
We anticipate that there will be more participants than the nine
papers that will be able to accommodate during the brainstorming
sessions. Thus, the only requirement is your willingness to be an
active participant during those three days.
We will cover the travel expenses of all speakers and discussants,
and we hope to be able to fund other academic participants. However,
we urge you to find other sources of funds, as we are running this
on a limited budget.
Please, fill out
this form to indicate your willingness to participate in the VI
Workshop in International Economics
and Finance at Universidad T. Di Tella. You may also do so be
sending an email to summer@utdt.edu

. Papers must be submitted by email in PDF format to the same
address. The program will be posted in the workshop's web site,
